Optical patch cord with MPO connectors (MTP)

MPO/MTP optical connectors are multifiber connectors that are widely used in data and telecommunications networks. They allow you to quickly and easily connect multiple fibers into a single connector, which greatly simplifies network installation and maintenance. MPO/MTP connectors can have from 12 to 24 fibers, which allows for the transmission of large amounts of data simultaneously. MPO/MTP connectors are designed to terminate ribbon cables or individual single fibers. The integrity of the connection is ensured by a spring-loaded side locking mechanism, and alignment is achieved with high-precision guide pins. The housings are color-coded to distinguish between single-mode and multimode connections. The removable housing allows for quick replacement of the contact clips, cleaning of the ferrules, or polishing of the connector. MTP trunk cables or splitters from MTP to single-mode connectors are available: LC, SC, etc.
The connectors are often used in high-speed data networks such as data centers and backbone communication channels. The use of MPO/MTP connectors can also reduce equipment costs and shorten installation time. It is also important to properly maintain and clean MPO/MTP connectors to maintain their performance.

Features of MPO/MTP connectors

  • Single mode and multimode systems
  • Angled and flat ferrules available
  • Ability to connect up to 24 fibers
  • Push/pull locking connector
  • Easy connection and disconnection
  • Trunk cable assemblies or patch cords with branching to individual fiber connectors
  • IEC61754-7, TIA/EIA 604-5

MPO (Multi-Fiber Push-On) connector is an optical connector with a multi-fiber tip of the MT (Mechanical Transfer) type, which has holes for several optical fibers (most often 12 or 24). MPO connectors allow for the simultaneous connection of several optical fibers, so they are used in parallel data transmission systems, as well as in networks with a large number of connections (for example, SCS-structured cabling systems in data centers).

MPO connectors are of two types: Male and Female. The Male connector has two guide pins protruding from the ferrule, and the Female connector has holes for these pins. This feature makes it possible to connect connectors of different types to each other.

The MTP® (Mechanical Transfer Push-On) connector is an improved version of the MPO connector developed by US Conec. The MTP has a number of design differences from the standard MPO, which reduces insertion loss and increases the mechanical strength and durability of the connector. Also, the MTP connector has a collapsible body, which allows changing the type of connector (Male-Female).
