Optical connectors

Fiber optic connector (optical connector) is an element of the FTTx network used to terminate optical fiber and optical cable for their subsequent connection to passive or active elements of fiber optic communication lines. OPTOKON manufactures more than 20 types of optical connectors. This section presents the most commonly used and main types of optical connectors: FC, SC connector, ST, LC, MU type, as well as the Quick-Cure fast connector (fast connector). The core of the optical connector is the ferrule (core) with a channel in the center. Ferrules are made of high-quality ceramic, which allows the fiber to be preserved during multiple uses. The channel diameter depends on the type of optical fiber: single-mode fiber or multi-mode fiber. For single-mode: 125 - 127 μm, for multi-mode: 127 - 130 μm. For most types of optical connectors, the core diameter is 2.5 mm, but in modern optical connectors such as LC, MU, a diameter of 1.25 mm is used. The optical fiber is tightly fixed in the connector with adhesive, and the end of the core is polished to the required quality.

A bare fiber adapter is used for quick mechanical connection to single-mode or multi-mode optical fiber with a primary coating diameter of 0.25 mm. Most often, such optical outlets are used for temporary connection of the optical cable to the network. Its main application is the temporary restoration of the operability of the optical line and incoming fiber inspection. They are reusable fiber optic connectors and are used during repair or optical measurements (testing). The bare fiber adapter consists of a special device that clamps the fiber and holds it in a buffer coating with a diameter of 0.9 mm, as well as an optical connector of a certain type. Such adapters are used for the most common types of connectors: FC, SC.

Fast connectors (FAST connectors) are traditionally used in the field for quick installation of the required type of optical connector on an optical cable or optical fiber. There are several technologies of fast connectors: gel connectors (Optokon QuickCure), fusion connectors (Optokon SpliceOnConnector), or mechanical connectors.
